What is the most accurate handgun out of the box? I have shot .22's, .38, .357, .45, 9mm, etc .357 for some reason seemed the most accurate and thats kind of in the middle as far as power so I am curious what makes it more accurate and why |

Impossible to answer based on too broad of a spectrum of available ammo, weapons, shooters, and shooting conditions.

Striker,
Ditto what Dillinger says. It just depends. I've shot some .22 lr semi autos that were tack-drivers, and 9mm's that were true "poppa-oscar-sierra's. I currently carry a .45acp that is a very accurate pistol. Caliber in and of itself has no bearing on accuracy. There are too many factors that go into ballistics to say which one is better than the others. You can buy two identical firearms, and they will not necessarily shoot the same. __________________ Sui Juris Cogito, ergo armatum sum NRA Life Member / SAF Member Retired Police Detective '71-'01 / LEOSA Certified Naval Aviation Veteran '65-'69

.357 is in the middle of power compared to what? The .357 and .45 are about equal, although they get there in different ways, and both tower over the other rounds you've listed..
The .357 in my personal favorite, as it achieves it's Oomph by way of high velocity, giving it a little more range than the .45 and a touch more "flat" trajectory for those longer shots..
As for accuracy, well thats a lot the shooter and barrel length and a number of other issues...
Either the .357 and .45 is light years (in my book) ahead of the 9mm, .38, and the rest of your list...

Much has been speculated about the "inherent accuracy" of certain cartridges. I once read an article that speculated on the ratio between caliber and case length. The .38 spl and .44 spl "seem" to be more inherintly accurate than other cartriges. The .380 ACP in the right gun is capable of very fine accuracy. The problem is most guns chambered in .380 are not capable of that kind of accuracy. I had a Bernardelli .380 that would shoot one hole groups at 20 yards. It was given to me covered in rust after having been submerged for several weeks. I cleaned it up and it shot better than great. |

depends on why type of pistol you are talking about.
Bolt action handguns are the most accurate of all handguns. (Rem Xp-100) |
