Magazines

How long do the Springs last in loaded mags before they start having feeding issues!! I keep a small 380 loaded with 6 and high cap 9mm loaded with 15! Just curious on how long the average magazines can be counted on!! Or is it something I need not worry to much about??

Do not worry about continual tension on the springs, they are made to be loaded at all times. For example, My aunt acquired my Taurus .380 I bought in 91. It was always loaded. My mother just got it back and took it to the range. No failures to feed or fire. If you want to take out the rounds and put them back in to work the springs, sure, why not. Never owned a gun so long that the mag springs lost tension. Anybody own a gun for decades that the springs went out on the mags?

ive got some 1911 mags i know or a fact were kept loaded from about 1945 to around 1992 when my mp unit switched to m9's. they were kept in the ammo vault for emergency in the armory. they were going to be tossed i took em and still use them today.

magazine springs dont wear out from being in a compressed state. they wear only by being used as in loading and unloading. you do more damage unloading to "let them rest". another way springs wear out is if the owner takes the springs out and stretch them.

With the minimal cost of springs, it is not a bad idea to have a couple laying around (and extra mags).

Should you have a question about the quality of the spring, put a new one in and sleep peacefully again.

Most last forever.

I would look for some of those "life" springs, as in "life springs ETERNAL".
