For inexpensive 1911s, check out Rock Island (RIA) & American Classic, made in the Phillipines. Springfield Armory has some entry level 1911s in the $600-$750 range.

For revolvers, I'm not into them although I do have a couple. Arguably, Ruger & Smith & Wesson seem to get most people's votes, but as revolvers go they are not considered inexpensive.

One would be hard pressed to find a 1911 with the features that Taurus has at their price. I have one and find it is very accurate, it has alot of custom style features and I have seen the new around 500 to 600,, mine was a used piece and I got an extremely fine deal on the piece. I was shopping for a Kimber or a Pony,,, but opted for the Taurus, and several hundred bucks remaing in the bank account,, and am very pleased.

Good shooting,
Jeff

For the 1911 Rock Island Armory, ATI, and some others make them around the $400 range. However their 1911's are usually a hit or miss. Springfield makes the 1911A1 GI .45 and 1911A1 Mil-Spec in the $600-$700 range. Regarding revolvers I just stick with Ruger or Smith and Wesson.

To yazul... i can believe that, i have a taurus pt 247 pro ds 40 and i absolutely love everything about it. It shoots extremely smooth and accurate. I didnt like the extremely long trigger pull but when i got used to it it actually seemed to help my accuracy

I am far from a 1911 expert, although I do own one. The best advice you will get from me is that you should buy something made in the U.S.

You should try and message hickok45 or birdshot1911 on youtube about 1911s. They both make great videos on firearms. I am sure they can help. Birdshot's first video is on a Springfield 1911-A1. It is surprising how much birdshot knows about firearms for he appears to be only a teenager. Either one could help you.
