What is a good realiable and rugged handgun that when or if worst comes to worst to help me survive along side an Ak-47 and could last 15+

My personal choice is the new production colt series 70 1911 in 45acp. Second choice would be sig p220 45acp simply because sig offers a 22lr conversion for it that has worked on even the crappiest remington bulk packs.

With the kit installed it weighs like nothing just toss it in the rucksack.

15 + what? Your question isn't quite clear.

Darn near anything will last 15+ years is it's properly maintained.

due to the lack of info from the OP, "last 15+" could mean years, months, days, minutes, seconds, number of shots, etc....

I sure wish the OP would provide more info, as advised in other posts.

Why waste our time?

I would agree on the anything will last if care for.
Like many other "what type of gun should I get" Look in to how it will be used, Plinking, hunting, safe queen... etc, If you never plan to use it, then it may not do you any good when the time comes, Practice practice practice.
I wish you the best of luck, There are many opinions on the internet, You should try to get some trigger time or at least handle a few to see what you like in a pistol before you buy, If it is possible.

I do not own a 1911... I know how un-American, But I do have a Sig P226 in .40S&W my daily carry is an XD40 sub-compact which is a .40S&W as well.
Most modern pistols should last a lifetime depending on how it is cared for, I like the .40, Generally it will carry more than a .45 and be somewhat more powerful than a 9mm, I am still waiting for the right 10mm pistol
Best of luck
