Default If you could start over, pick your first 5 handguns?

Inspired by this thread http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f14/beginning-pistol-collection-where-start-39898/

Knowing everything you know now...pretend you are a newbie who can only save $150/month. (excluding other expenses like ammo, range fee, accs. etc.)

How would you build your initial 3-5 handguns? Note that you can buy anything you want but expensive ones may take forever at $150/mo adding on your firearm fund.

What will you buy 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th?

I will probably start with a 9mm CZ 75 SP01 for $600.00 (4 months)
Followed by my .22LR Buckmark for $300.00 (2 months)
Then a really nice .45ACP 1911 $2,400.00 (15 months)
Later add a .357mag S&W 686 $700.00 (<5 months)
Maybe a 9mm Walther PPS for carry $600.00 (4 months)

It will take 2.5 years but I think I will be very happy with this setup and will be worth the wait.

What would you do?

1) CZ 75b, $450-600. Good learning platform, acceptable defensive firearm.
2) Browning/Ruger 22lr $250-500. Still haven't decided which I'll buy.

If you're not carrying concealed, you can get by on those two for quite a while...and I'd probably add some long guns in the mean time...12ga SG, 22lr rifle, AR-15. I don't even enjoy shotguns, but very few options are more versatile for defense, hunting, survival, emergencies than a $300 pump SG.

3) Springfield Milspec or other nicer entry level 1911, $600-900.
4) Ruger GP100, 4-6" barrel 357mag. Basic, sturdy revolver. $400-500, because I'll buy it used.
5) Carry Gun. I'll give the $700 Kimber Solo a try. If not carrying, I'd look into a tacticool polymer 9/40/45.

I have five pistols myself (plus a Kimber Solo on order), but somehow I have yet to own a dedicated 22lr, 1911, or revolver. I'm strongly considering parting with my P226 to land a rimfire pistol and get a start on a 1911 with what's left over. The current liquid gun funds are being directed toward a rifle project (AR-10) I just started.

Default what i have

I'd likely go with what I have currently:
Remington 700 .223
Remington 597 .22
Winchester Model 70 .270
S&W 642 .38
G22
G19

They are all inexpensive firearms and arguably ugly or ornery or boring. But I've been with them so long that I've gotten attached to them.

Oh...I'd add a shotgun too..not sure which though.

1) I'd probably start with a .357 Magnum Ruger Security Six (Good balance of home defense and carry).
2) Then I would but a Snubbie 5-shot Smith or Ruger in 357 or 38 for discreet carry.
3) My next choice, with no good concealed weapons wound be to safe for a Colt 1911; probably my Combat Elite (I can't imagine not owning it).
4) An inexpensive (but not cheap) 22 for the range.
5) Then I would probably buy a Colt Defender for my 5th gun.

I'm not far from where I would like to be if I had to start over.

If I did have to start over, it would probably go something like this:

1 Glock 19 - for a reliable all purpose gun
2 Springfield Milspec 1911 - because no gun collection is complete without a 1911
3 Ruger LCP - for pocket carry
4 Ruger Security Six in stainless - because that's my favorite revolver
5 Ruger MKIII - for cheap .22 plinkin' fun

1) Used Ruger MkII ~$250 + $50 ammo (2 months)
Get to the range and shoot.

2.6) Used 1911 - I've seen many top names for $5-600 (4 months, 5 w/ ammo)
A defense gun starts in a caliber with a .4 a good one starts with 1911

2.6) Used .357 Revolver -Ruger, S&W something in 4" $3-400 (3 mo W/ammo)
These are the STEAL on the used gun market. Great guns, great prices.

2.6) Used Snub .38/.357 - Many choices, shop around. ~$300 (2 Months)
Shares practice ammo with the 4" .357 and makes a great carry gun.

5) Pocket .380 - LCP, P38T, ect. You'll never leave it at home. $300 (2 mo)
You'll need some practice ammo, but you won't shoot it for fun.

The 2.6 means whichever you get a deal on first. Then the next and so forth....

Call it 15 months with good carry ammo.
