IDPA shooting

I had my first participation in IDPA shooting this weekend, and it was fun!

I did rather well. I had some compliments from other shooters on my accuracy. I know I will never be a grand master, but the competition is fun. I used my Glock 34 and it never let me down.

IDPA shooting is addictive!!

I started competitive shooting in idpa but, it definitely lives down to its reputation of a bunch of old guys standing around arguing about how to shoot the stage. More time is spent arguing about the damn rules than shooting.
I switched and shoot ipsc, no discussion, shoot the stage how you see fit. Usually 1 to 1.5 hrs faster with the same overall stages and round count.

My experience has been that in any and all competitive shooting, the arguing consumes more time than the shooting. And the afficianados keep lobbying for rules that make their $5000 race guns win against better marksmen with lesser guns. That's why I quit doing it.

I shot one competition years ago at a local range. I thought I was hot $h!t lol. I think I came in 27th out of 90 sum. Shooters. I won a nice Leatherman that I still have. The winner got a little bit nicer prize a Custom Colt Combat Commander. Lots of fun though!

Yes, it is a lot of fun. Until you get so bugged on it that you sell off the two original Colt SAA revolvers and grandfather's 92 Winchester to pay for that $5000 race gun. And you cancel the vacation you and your wife had been planning for the last 5 years to go to a match.

Think it doesn't happen?? Think again. The guy was my Lt.(supervisor)
