Owning a pistol is not a privilege it is a right afforded by the 2nd Amendment I would move far far away from that communist state, if that is not an option I would go with a 357 gp100 for a home gun and for a carry gun there are plenty of mid size and small revolvers, some use a 5 shot cylinder so it is a little smaller, S&W J frames, Ruger LCR or SP101 are some examples of smaller ones, then you have the ability to shoot lighter loads in the 38 special if you like. The suggestion of something like a Glock with extra interchangeable barrels is a good idea if you like to have different caliber options and you like the Glock, I don't care for them. Biggest thing is it has to be comfortable in your hand or you will hate it and it will be next to impossible to be proficient with it if it doesn't fit. If you like the striker type gun like the Glock, check out S&W m&P series, Springfield XD, and Ruger SR9 or SR40 series, all good guns as well if that's what you are into.

Nothing mechanical is foolproof. I had a revolver jam up so tight it almost had to go to a gunsmith. When a revolver does jam, it is usually catastrophic. An auto can usually be cleared. The 1911 replaced the revolver because of battlefield reliability not for the extra round.
There are a lot of options out there. The G30 seems to be having some issues. The suggestion of a G23 with multiple barrels would be a good one. One pistol could give you 40 S&W, 357 Sig and 9mm. I would also look at the XD pistols. An XD45c is not much different in size than a G30 although it is a little heavier.

And faster reloading.

I personally prefer a 357 mag revolver. My 6" 686 is near my bed and my second choice after my Mossberg 500.

I like the 30 because it has a light rail, good power with a 45 acp, and plenty of firepower with 9 rounds,
It is also small and compact for a 45.

I was thinking about the 27 but no light rail makes me nervous in the home.

357 is a hell of a gun, but something of a white elephant, if it's small enough to carry, it is usually hard to control. If it is full sized and good to fire, hard to carry.

So any ideas?
The Glock 30 is a great HD & CCW weapon & since you already like it------(and I dont even like Glocks but I did own the 30 )

NY,

I would stay with the 40 or 45 cal. The Glock 30 is a good choice or some of the following.
220 Sig 45
Springfield XD 40 or 45
27 or 23 Glock Compact 40 cal.

The Sig Sauer platform was designed for countries that only allow one gun per household. The trigger assembly can be removed and placed into different frames. The reason this is important is that only one serialized firearm (on such Sig models the trigger assembly is what has the serial #, NOT the frame), can be moved into different sized frames/barrels that could serve different purposes.

If I could only buy one gun, for sure I would choose a 9mm semi-automatic. What exact gun you choose should be your choice based on your hand and your eye.

Find a used Peters Stahl in Multi-Calibre.
You can have barrels from 9mm to .45ACP and keep the same serial number.

Beretta 96 A1, G27, or S&W M&P .40C. Each are different and each are customized to my HD and carry liking. And are ALL VERY GOOD Handguns.
