No getting around it if your not willing to wear glasses for a few minutes to save your life or a loved one's life. Laser pointers arent going to fix that.

Now if you do shoot someone thats in your home illegally depending on how much of a socialist the da is you may be facing the question of: "why did you open fire on little johnny just trying to turn his life around when you cant see who it was???" Not a fun question to answer by you or your lawyer on a grand jury witness stand.

In a state that doesnt recognize self defense castle type law and even those that do its a hard question to get around when the spectacles arent even in the house

For that reason i would really try to keep glasses handy on the bedside just for target recognition.

I'm afraid I worded my post too strongly. I was just shocked. I'm a long time shooter and and this was the first time I lifted a firearm and everything wasn't crystal clear. Trust me, it's shocking.
I can see where you are coming from. As long as you can see the target. Maybe practice shooting at an indoor range without your contacts in!

I wear contact lenses or glasses. I always keep a pair of glasses on the nightstand however I can see pretty well without glasses I just cant read text at a distance.

My eye doctor also told me that I can sleep in my lenses as long as I take them out once a week at least. I do sometimes sleep in them but not very often and usually only if I am camping or something and don't have good lighting to take them in and out.

Cant help feeling that keeping them in for a week at a time is asking for an eye infection despite what the Dr says.

But when at someone else's house or on vacation that's something that's bothered me. I've played with the idea of lasiks but I don't think it's worth it. I've also heard of newer contacts that can be worn overnight without problems.

If be concerned with getting a laser to solve your problem. As most of us were taught "know your target and what's behind it." If you have trouble identifying them I would never feel comfortable pulling the trigger. Maybe a light laser combo.

I have this on my SR9 and it really makes me feel comfortable. Green laser stands out very nicely and the light has some umph to it.
I wore contact from the time I was about 12 until I was 26. I had Lasik done at 26. My vision went from wearing -3.75 contacts to 20/10 overnight. Now, it's been 7 years and I don't have 20/10 anymore, last I had it checked I had 20/30. (and granted, once you've had 20/10 it's like having been to the promised land and then being told you have to leave when it drops back to 20/20 or so) Is it worth it? You bet your ass it is. No contacts, no solutions, no glasses, no waking up in the middle of the night blind, none of that. In 1 day it changes your life for the better forever. I could go back and have them give me another correction to get back to 20/20, but it's like $500 to have another correction (being cheaper because when they cut your cornea to do the lasik, the flap they create is there forever. To have another procedure they don't have to cut again, they just reopen the old incision and zap) It's quite painless, and after having it done you'll wonder why you waited so long to do it.

As for the OP's question, I'd get a set of super cheap glasses just for the "in case of emergency" scenario. You may never wear them, but at least if hell froze over you'd have a backup.

laser no.. brightest tac light you can find.. doesnt even have to be on the gun. i have a nice light on my gun, and also a huge a$$ maglight.. suppppppper bright. lights up the whole room. not only can i clearly identify a threat i can blind the crap out of them and maybe thats enough to change there minds.

you say you can see okay, just not detail stuff. a laser is not going to be much easier to see and wont help you identify if the perp is armed or unarmed threating or lost. or even a perp. maybe its a long lost sister.. go find a light..or a ton of lights

I've been thinking about a tac light anyway and think this would kill two birds with one stone (or should I say light).
Thanks everyone.

Check out stream light rechargeable. I have a big one mounted beside the bed on the wall and one of there smaller rechargeables mounted on my AR. They are blindingly bright and also have a strobe setting that would give a blind man seizures.
