Tonight's news reported a home invasion robbery in Livermore Calif.

The victims are an older married couple who were asleep when their house was broken into at 4 a.m. by 2 robbers who tied them up, covered their heads, and ransacked their home.

This city, home of the famous Lawrence Livermore Labs, seems to be experiencing a rash of these burglaries and robberies lately.

So, solutions ...

(1) do nothing, let the robbers steal, and just make an insurance claim?

(2) get a dog?

(3) sign up for property survelliance security?

(4) get a semi-auto pistol or shotgun?

(5) several of the above?

Its actually a rather high class neighborhood, that's why they have been targeted.

California has jobs, which is something hard to find elsewhere.

Otherwise I would move to Arizona.

But the same thing could also happen in Ariz as well.

Arizona is a 69% gun ownership state not 100%.

chances are that those commiting home invasions have been spotting thier victims and know thier routines/habits They also most likey know whether a home owner has defenses or not

act/behave like a victim and chances are you will be a victim

The same thing could happen anywhere. The ODDS of it happneing elsewhere are smaller when you get out of Cali.

Choosing a place to live based on gun ownership stats is stupid. But, if it truly matters to you, move to Vermont. Much better gun laws than AZ. Much less crime per capita, too.

Like I said with option 6... move out of the area. If it's an area targetted because of wealth, that'll never change. Securing your home so it won't happen is a fantasy. Once the criminals know the reaction time for the police, they'll know how much time they have to break in and can plan accordingly. High class neighborhoods don't really bring in the junkies looking for a quick fix. They tend to bring in the criminals that know what they are doing.

If i were them. What i'd do:
If my job (income) is there, i'd definitely install a good security home alarm, install more deadlock on doors and stopper on windows. Then get a SD firearm not to forget putting up a sticker or sign with a gun graphic.
And most importantly, no harms been made to ourlives. Lives are priceless.
Cos there's a saying "small percentage for the bad guys to come back twice for the same place". If it happens, either they are stupid OR we are stupid.

If we look at our own daily routines, we will find that we are repetitious with most that we do.

Those bushes by the windows may need trimming. Our lights are turned off by a certain hour each night.
The privacy fence provides just as much privacy for someone to break in as it does for me.
"Have to get to work by nine....."
We know the fastest route to work and use it all the time everyday.
Outside lights are lit only when we go out for the evening.
Everyone of out "friends" on that social network know we are going on vacation in 2 weeks.

Moving out may not be the best (the grass may be greener on the other side of the fence, but it still needs mowing).

First line of defense is a secure home, here LEO's will come and give you pointers to make your home safer against burglars.
Next is a early warning system, I like a 100# German Shepard. She is intimidating to look at even if she is a lap dog, barks at anything that comes into the yard.
A remote control light in the Dinning room and the Den with the remote on my night stand, right beside my pistol.
