Help a Noob

At least a few times a week sombody will post something like:

Quote:

I'm a newbie to handguns and I have $500 to spend, what should I buy?
Not trying to be a jerk, but without more information nobody can realistically help you.

Guns are like cars and shoes - what works for you may not work for me and vice-versa. Many of us have lots of experience but without some details we can't help you with solid advice. Things we need to know in order to help are:

What calibers?
Semi auto or revolver?
Intended purpose, e.g. range only, home defense, carry gun, etc.
Steel or plastic
...and the list can go on and on...

If y'all ask the right questions - we'll try to give reasonable answers. Remember - even the mods aren't mind readers...

Sort of like "I have $1000 to spend. Where should I go on vacation?"

What I like and what you like may be worlds apart (altho why anyone would not like to live in an Eskimo village for a week in Feb and learn to play the bagpipes is beyond me :))

IF y'all can give us a hint as to WHAT you want to do with the pistol/rifle/shotgun/cannon/small nuclear weapon, we MIGHT be able to offer some meaningful thoughts. My crystal ball is in the shop for an oil change and calibration.

At least you'll get yours back, I dropped mine so I have to rely on Ineff for insight into the future (and he generally ignores me)...
