The Smith & Wesson model 3 (Schofield) was largely considered a superior cavalry arm when compared to the Colt 1873 Single Action Army, but was not successful because of Smith & Wesson reluctance to chamber the gun in .45 COLT. Since the Army had a large supply of .45 COLT ammunition, they stayed with the Peacemaker because it could shoot both .45 COLT and .45 Schofield cartridge.

Here's your top 10 right here...but...Just a warning...these are ALL about Browning....cuz He is amazing.

John Moses Browning built his first gun at age 14 from scrap in his father's workshop...

A couple years later he built his model 1878 and it soon became the most successful large bore breech loader of the time.

Many of the guns you think as iconic to the west such as Winchesters' 1873, 1886, 1894, 1895, Model 12... were actually designed by John Browning.

John Browning invented THE 1911.

He also invented the colt 1895 "potato digger" gas-op machine gun without having any knowledge that Hiram Maxim had already invented a machine gun.

Browning invented the first practical pump, recoil and gas operated shotguns, the Model 12, the A-5, and the B2000 respectively.

He invented the Browning 1919 .30 cal and the M2 .50 cal and when the US Military wanted to buy his firearms..he sold them back to his nation at a cheaper than normal flat rate with no royalty fees.

He is recognized as one of the greates firearms geniuses to ever live.

Browning saved FNH when he moved prodcution of his guns to Belgium.

Browning only went to Belgium because the Remington Rep. he was planning to meet died of a heart attack minutes before the meeting.

During Word War II one of the reasons the Japanese were reluctant to invade the US was due to the number of firearms in private citizens hands.

There still is...

The .22, due to it's apparently numeric popularity, and people's

disregard for it's size and power, has killed more people than any

other cartridge size.

The 7.92 x 33 Kurz "intermediate" round, developed by the Germans during

WWII, because research showed most firefights to be at distances of

less, usually much less, than 400 yards. This highly successful, lighter round

spawned the competitive creation of the Russian 7.62 x39 from the larger 7.62 X 54R,

and from the Americans, the 7.62 x51 from the 30.06(7.62 X63).

The 7.62 X39,which is chambered in the AK47, and SKS; and the 7.62x 51 (@.308), which are

chambered in the M14 and M1A, are still two of the most popular rounds in the world.

70% of the small arms used by U.S. Forces around the globe bear the FN name...according to FN's website. They manufacture M16s for the military and a variety of other small arms.

The largest gun fitted to an aircraft is a 105mm howitzer in the AC-130 gunship.

Well who else is going to throw av-trivia in here.

5 of the top 6 arms exporters in the world are the 5 permanent members of the UN security council.

From movie Lord of War, but updated since Germany is also in the top 5.
