On October 1, 1987, Florida's right-to-carry law became effective.

* This law requires that concealed carry licensees be 21 years of age or older, have clean criminal/mental health records, and complete a firearms safety/training course.

* As of July 31, 2010, Florida has issued 1,825,143 permits and has 746,430 active licensees, constituting roughly 5.4% of the state's population that is 21 years of age or older.

* Since the outset of the Florida right-to-carry law, the Florida murder rate has averaged 36% lower than it was before the law took effect, while the U.S. murder rate has averaged 15% lower.

John Cantius Garand was a Canadian working at Springfield Armory in Massachusetts who had an ice skating rink in his living room.

He taught his kids to be riflemen and women.

He gave us the M1...see, something good does come from Canada in addition to milk in bags.

The German chemist Christian F. Schönbein was experimenting with a mixture of nitric acid and sulphuric acid in the kitchen of his house in 1845. While his wife strictly forbade such experiments in the home, she was out at the time. Schönbein accidentally spilled some of his acid and, in a panic, he seized the first thing at hand, his wife's cotton apron, sopped up the mixture, then hung it over the stove to dry before his wife came home. When the apron dried, it suddenly burned, and so rapidly that it seemed simply to disappear. The astonished Schönbein investigated and found he had formed what is now called "nitrocellulose" or "guncotton". This was the beginning of the replacement of gunpowder on the battlefield.

A 1947 study found that during the Second World War, only about 15 to 25 percent of the American infantry ever fired their rifles in combat.

The first nation to issue a semiautomatic rifle to members of its Army was Mexico, in 1887. The rifle was designed by Gen. Mondragon of the Mexican Army, was made in Switzerland, and chambered for 7mm Mauser. It was later used by German aircraft observers (backseaters) as a defensive firearm in flight.

Uh, too many people buy a gun for self defense and the majority cannot or will not practice on a regular basis. The thought of owing a handgun will make the normal person a "Superman" and no harm will come to them.

I just made a comment on a similar post like yours...

Some people like tht buy a gun for a intimidation factor and one time they will pull it on the wrong person and get it taken away and used on them.. Or they will b in a situation where they just get scared and pull the trigger during a non life threatening confrontation.
