I had a 226 years ago and it was only like $750 back then with a lasermax installed. What upped the price on them?

Thanks guys for all of the info!! Since I don't have a nearby range to go to I'm gonna take a stab at one and shoot the heck out of it!!! After all, I still enjoy shooting my HiPoint and it's a club!!! Any of the ones mentioned in this thread will be like a Cadillac compared to what I got. Sort of narrowed it down to either the M&P or a Sig.

UPDATE: gonna extend my price point to $800-$1000 and like the Sig P226 tactical operations.

Touche.

I guess I more meant have they increased that much over the years in base price. I don't see why people are paying more for hand guns. My local still has new Glocks in the case for $525. He received some inventory today while I was there. A S&W MP10, 3 H&K 416's, and an Ambush Arms (Daniel Defense) 6.8 AR. Some really nice sheet

A base Sig when I bought my 226 about 3-4 years ago was better than 750 nib.

Why not try the Ruger SR9, then you can use those extra hundreds of dollars on ammo. Awesome trigger, striker fired, comfy grip and runs under 500.00.

If you are going to use this gun as back up for hunting then you want a gun that can Knock a bear on its ass. with $600 you are looking at a .45 and have a choice of the M&P45, RIA 1911, maybe a Glock 21 if you can find one, or one of the tarus wheel gun models. If I were you and since you have a Hi-Pont already and yiou know they are not pieces of junk, get the .40 and the .45 models AND get a 995TS or 4095TS so then you will have 3 new guns v. one more when the President outlaws them all.

Bears!!?? holy hell you just blew this out of the water. There's no way, no f**king way, carry, plinking and smacking a bear down fit on the same handgun. A .45ACP's gonna piss off a bear a bit more than a nine will but knocking one back takes velocity, not just diameter. That's pure wheel gun territory there. .357 mag or higher.
