Default Hard to rack the slide

As I get older I find it harder to pull back the slide of my 9mm Glock and my 1911 .45. Any ideas apart from taking weight lifting that would make it easier for me? Can a gunsmith add some type of hook or device where I could get a better grip?

Yes, they can! I don't know what it's called, or how much they cost, because I'm not at toe point where I need it, but that option is available.

Talk to your local smith about it and find out some more details!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0052OOQJK. Check this thing out. It's on amazon but it might put you on the right track on what to look for.

Short of altering your guns, consider
1- Grabbing the slide overhead with the palm heel instead of a pinch (just in case you haven't yet)
2- Shooting gloves. I actually use batter's gloves, they are light, grip well, and $15 a pair.

Cocking the hammer on the 1911 before racking helps. I dont know what motions you have tried but a double push makes it easier. With the pistol across your chest, grasp the slide with your non dominant hand and the grip in your dominant hand. Push with both hands. Make sure you stay clear of the ejection port. If that does not work make sure your carry gun is a revolver.

An old timer's 1911 trick is to set up a three sided block of hard wood that the inside was large enough for the barrel to go into, but not the slide.

About 3" high, you could set it on the bench and use your body weight to cock it.

I wear these gloves when I am shooting or handling rough material. They work very well for both tasks. You will get a lot of wear from a pair of these gloves. For the price you can not find a better pair of gloves.

I have a charging handle that mounts onto the back of the slide of my G24. Make racking the slide very easy. I can't remember what it is called;my Smith got it for me.I
