Yeah, reading on that apparently bears have a sloped skull, and bullet+slope/angle=ricochet...

Kind of blows a hole in you "shoot it in the head" theory doesn't it.

As said before, shooting it in the head will NEVER guarantee an instant kill. You might be lucky and kill it, or your luck might run out and you may be mauled horrifically.

Back to the original post
I am 18 and do not own a handgun
However I hav shot a huge variety of handguns in calibers ranging from 22 LR to 44 Magnum whatever you choose to carry you better be able to handle the recoil or you'll be shooting in the air and it won't matter how big that bullet is I personally like the 45 ACP and that would be what I would carry.

My uncle when I was out hunting with him after being warned that a bear was about to walk in front of me via Radio I was told if I have to run run downhill because they'll stumble and fall with all that weight behind them

What you guys don't do bear attack drills?

What's the difference between a bear and a criminal? I might only shoot the criminal one or two times; the bear is getting the full mag/cylinder unless I have a chainsaw RPG handy.

We can't nuke them from orbit; it would smell toooooo bad.

All that did is piss off the bear.
Pfffft! The .308 got it out of the damn tree didn't it?

Wouldn't atleast 10 rounds of a good caliber be plenty to kill a bear quickly if you shoot to blow his brain out of its case?
Cj, a bears head is bouncing up and down as it comes running towards you, It isnt perfectly level like a cheetahs. Most people seeing a 1200 pound bruin coming at them with teeth do what instinct tells them to do, run. To a preditor that just makes them try harder to get to u. It is also very rare to see a bear up here without having brush, trees, and everything else in the way between u and the bear. So its generally not like seeing a bear on a flat leve plain and having a couple of hundred yards to empty your guns into it. You are more than welcome to come up this november on a moose hunt with my friends and help carry out the meat and test your 'skills'.
