I guess my biggest concern is that I plan to use a belly band holster. Does anyone have any experience with that?

I do get what you're saying though. I knew a cop that carried a Desert Eagle .357, however, the guy was 6'3", 260lbs of pure muscle, so I'm guessing the weight didn't bother him much.

I've worn a belly band on several occasions. Concealment is good. The down size to the belly band is it squeezes you tightly, and drawing is a bit slower.

I have carried my full size 1911 in it without any problems. Not sure how "heavy" you are talking, but for $20.00 give it a try. If you don't like it; wear it like a girdle

As a side note, my officers model is alot more comfortable in the belly band.
