Update..
Just returned from Las Vegas. The latest is that the background check will take 5 to 6 weeks due to a backlog of release requests. They ( LVPD ) even have a direct phone number to check on progress.
My sister-in-law was told that when picking up the items to just bring a cardboard box.
Once done I plan on making another trip to collect the items.

5-6 weeks for a background check? WTF, over? Are they waiting for DNA to come back? A background check takes 5 minutes, if you are slow and stupid.

In NY, when you purchase a firearm and pass the background check, you're given a piece of paper stating it's a instant background check, stamped, notarized, etc.But 5-6 weeks for a INSTANT background check??? Something stinks here...

Default Inherited 1911

I believe the laws have changed, but my late father brought my grand-father's father's Colt 1911 back to Alabama from Texas after finding it in the top of his mother's closet following her death in 1987. Neither of the other siblings wanted it, so he just brought it back. The local police were never involved however, I'm sure even then there would've been some red tape to go through.

You may very well have to hire an attorney specializing in estate law, or at the very least consult with one and ask their recommendation.

Good luck with it and my condolences for your brother's passing.

Thanks for all the advice.... I'm still in awe of all the BS that has come about getting possesion of one of my brothers guns. All, except one were sold to a dealer in Las Vegas. I now have one, but it is still in Nevada. According to Cal DOJ, it is not on the approved list, henceforth I can't ( Hmmm) have it here. It's amazing to me that a S&W Mdl 19 357mag doesn't comply, but hey, what do I know. Also, mind boggling to me is why my blood brother is not considered immediate family...we have the same mother and father..

Terol, in Californicate-ya, having the same mother and father doesn't make you a relative unless your mother and father are also brother and sister.

There is an element of cheezyness that makes me think you might want to start lawyer shopping.
5 to 6 weeks for a simple background check? I can't help but think they are monkeying about.

Liberals are constantly telling us about the poor and oppressed in this country. With that in mind, why do they feel the need to keep importing poor people from other countries?
