Default Handgun manufacturers to avoid?

I have several rifles but I have never owned a handgun and would like to purchase a revolver for home protection and an automatic for weekend trips into the desert. Which handgun manufacturers should I absolutely avoid and why?

Thanks for your input.

First go by the new members page and introduce yourself, it helps members understand you and your firearm experience. Best to provide detailed info concerning your firearm expereince and requirements of a firearm.

After that you should express your budget for each firearm and a more descriptive expression for the use. It takes some effort to get a reasonable answer. Welcome to FTF sorry I can't give you a quick answer.

The only one that comes to mind right now is Taurus. Some people have great taurus guns with never a problem(like me), but I have read several posts where people had mechanical problems with their taurus' and had very poor customer service.

Please do what WDB suggested.

I'd stick to the big three. Colt, Ruger, and S&W. But that's just me.

I wouldn't completely rule out Taurus revolvers. While they aren't up to S&W or Ruger standards, they are quite good for the price. Their customer service does seem to be a bit spotty, though.

Commanche. Ring-of-fire origin.

Whatever you choose, stay American made. It is easier to talk to customer service personnel if they speak English. Jmo.
