Default Handgun 1913 Picatinny Rail Accessories

My new Beretta Px4 has a 1913 Picatinny Rail. I've never had a rail before.
What are all the rail accessories options?

The ones I know about are Laser & Flashlight. What else is there and what do you recommend?

There are bayonets, oddball contraptions that wrap around the slide to provide an upper optics mount, bipods (yes, I've actually seen a handgun or two sporting a bipod), lasers, and lights. And probably several other doo-dads whose senselessness defies logic even more than those listed above.

A laser/light setup can be a nice option on rare occasions. My Sig P226 wears a Sig STL-900L laser/light/strobe. That 's because that gun stays on my nightstand for when things go bump in the night. But I'd never put any rail-mounted devices on a gun I intended to carry.

I mean I guess that about covers it :P .

Though I've used bipods on pistols to test accuracy.

I just put this lasermax micro on my Christmas list on Amazon...

Amazon.com: Lasermax Uni-Max® Micro: Sports & Outdoors

Beretta's website has lasermax accessories and says the micro will work on my full size rail too.

For a carry gun laser I'd strongly suggest Crimson Trace grips or a Lasermax guide rod setup. While these cost 2-3X the unit you're looking at, minimizing catch points and reliable sighting is well worth it.

That unit you're looking at could work well on a HD handgun. Heck, maybe an AR or SG. You can get the same setup for under $93 at ManVentureOutpost. They've got good service and excellent pricing on mags and accessories.

I do like the guide rod laser best! Unfortunately, they don't have it available yet for the Px4 though.

Right now, I'm considering the laser to be a luxury item that I wouldn't buy myself. That's why I put it on my Amazon Christmas list along with a holster that holds rail accessoried Px4s and some spare batteries too.

I'm leaning toward the micro because it is the lightest and smallest. It also seemed to have the most positive reviews compared to the other fullsize lasermax. If they were the same price, I'd actually get the green laser, but I don't see why it should be double price. Just going by the reviews I've read so far, the micro beats the others.

I've also considered the light/laser combos. I've decided I'd rather have the flashlight seperate from the gun. One scenario is maybe I'd rather look like a guy walking around with a flashlight and not give it away that I'm armed.

For a strictly-HD gun, I'd definitely recommend a weapon-mounted light. Allows full recoil control once any shooting begins, and good ones have very nice momentary switches. You can still always grab a second light just like you would without the mounted light.

For CC, though, I am not as excited about the greater bulkiness and limited holster options. Plus it might look a little more "vigilante" to have one on a carry piece.

I use the same handgun for CC and HD, though I've still considered picking up a weapon light to put on the gun when Im home.

I agree with your assessments for both HD & CC...
My ready HD items are 12 gauge w/buckshot & LCR 357
My usual CC items are LCP & LCR
Both of those are defensive situations and as just in case, but unlikely need.

If I were to ever have to go into a known dangerous situation for whatever reason (SHTF), I'd want my new 45 and it would also be nice to have a laser on it too. Perhaps hypothetically the area is over-run with looters and riots, but I need to travel. It wouldn't be the normal situation for CC. It would be carry the biggest/best I got.

Interestingly, my M9s no longer have a real purpose or don't fit any of these three purposes. I have them just because they are the same as I've had training in the military. The M9s were probably my SHTF choice until recently since I just upgraded this year to 45 ACP.
