If I'm shooting 300yds, it's not self defense, or target shooting with a handgun. It may be a "hit the fan" situation. If that is the case, I'm still shooting a rifle. In that case, I'll take my chances against ANY handgun. With alot of practice, some people could be proficient at 300 yds with a handgun. Many will never be.
Many will never be comfortable with the recoil of a 454. If you are not comfy with the recoill, a person will never be accurate at 25 yds, let alone long distance. I'm glad you are so confident with a very large caliber pistol, but I think you are probably giving poor advice(although well intentioned) for this discussion. By the way, I wish I could be comfortable with that kind of kick out of a handgun. You clearly can shoot a handgun better than I can at 300 yds.
