Why do you ask?
Curious , what is the minor technical difference between a gun and a firearm?

Hey, I'm retired USAF. We have not been trained that well on small arms.

One of the Marine Corps sayings (quoted by a Marine):
This is my rifle
This is my gun
With this I kill people
With this I have fun.

An aside: years ago a "gun" was a firearm without any rifling. Today, almost anything goes.

The word gun was used when referring to a cannon. The correct name for the big things that go boom on navy ships is gun's. Like he said a gun did not have riffling. Things have changed

Really? Tell that to the M-1 Abrams.

Now, which is better, the AR-47 or the AK-15? And if I had to have one which would it be? Or maybe the Mossberg 870 or Remington 500 shoty... And then, would you use fine birdshot or the largest buckshot for home defense!?

Or replace them all with a Mosin-Nagant -- the best gun ever made for everything ever since the Soviets stole the Makarov pistol and ammo from the Germans.
