It'll be interesting to see how close this charging bear was when he started shooting. I can tell you, Fish and Game up here isn't impressed by excitable folks blasting bears at 40 yds and claiming self defense. Bet the feds take a dimmer view. I want to hear the facts before I give this guy too many attaboys.

How many seconds do you think it will take a charging Grizzly to cover that 40 yards?

As far as I am concerned, my life is threatened the time the bear started charging and self defense kicks in at that moment.

Look, I live here. I know a grizzly can cover 40 yards in about 3 seconds. I also know that if you shoot a grizzly at 40 yards and claim self defense it's going to cost you two to five thousand dollars and you loose your gun. Type all you want, I know the drill here.

Don't know how fast those bears are but Mike Singletary could cover it in 4.6...

You are the local guy in the know, but i would have to go back to that oft-cited addage that goes something like: "better judged by 12 than carried by 6".

Not to mention that people can make mistakes about exactly where they were standing when they fired, probably easier with a revolver though.

Another good reason to pack a revolver into bear country...... no spent casings. And unless you pack a Desert Eagle .44, IMHO a .454 Casull relvolver would be easier to pack and more effective! I just thought it interesting that a .45 acp actually killed a grizzly, I wonder how many times it has been done?

I'm going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. If he was charged he had the right to defend himself and his loved ones by any means necessary.

Certainly have to agree with you there. I'd take the shots and worry about the regulators later.

It's alright, I won't hold that bizarre frame of mind against you, since I doubt you've spent much time in the Rockies.

Up here we enjoy the land how it was (and still is here ) naturally.

What an ugly world it would be with nothing, but humans??? Wow. . .
