california has this law for handguns only, you can buy as many long guns as you want though.

West by God Virginia has this law for handguns only. For the most part WV is very gun friendly but they have that law still in place for some reason. Virginia just repealed the same law they had in place for a while so I look for WV to do the same some time within the next few years I hope.

Maybe late, but
my choice would be
a S&W M&P for SD/CC
and a Ruger MarkIII for target shooting.

I'm going to agree with someone off of the first page, if it's not too late.

Ruger LC9 (or similar...KelTec PF9, for example) and a RIA 1911. I'd get the 1911 in the proper caliber, but if you're looking for cheaper shootin' then don't let anyone talk you out of a 9mm. I have a 9mm 1911 and put 3x the amount of rounds through it compared to my buddy who's got it in .45ACP for about the same price and MY wrist doesn't hurt at the end of the day. Plus, since I'm not hesitating over the recoil I am much more accurate with mine!

It's not too late I'm going Friday. I think Ive got my choices down to a s&w m&p 9c or glock 19. Then after my 30 day waiting period I will hopefully have saved up enough additional cash to purchase a Springfield 1911 GI model... Preferably in stainless. Or if they have what I want I might get the 1911 first if I can't help myself
