Okay like I said before, I am newbie, and I have never officially been to a range. My gun shooting has always been out on oil leases, handgun and skeet.

So since I going to be getting my CHL soon, and for handgun training, I am getting a membership to the only range around here with an hour's drive of where I live.

So I have seen a lot about range bags and the like. So what do I need in mine?

Eye and Ear Protection is a no brainer.

So what do I need starting out, what do I need to shoot for, and feel free to post pics of yours!

I keep mine fairly simple. Eyes, ears, plenty of ammo, whatever guns I plan to fire and if I'm going to spend time behind a rifle or I'm testing a new load I usually take some cleaning gear to keep the barrel clean so there are fewer variables. With pistols I don't usually worry about it, I'm not trying to bench rest a pistol at 25 yards...

I take my pistol and ammo.
Then I have my spotting scope including my tripod, since we shoot 25meters and rifle at 100meters it`s easier to see how I hit the target. The targets are fix mounted at 25 meters.
Pen and paper to make some notes
Eye and ear protection, cleaning gear for the pistol just in case and a set of small screw drivers incase something needs to adjusted.

Extra ear plugs, it seems there is always a spectator without. Depending if it's a pistol or rifle day, the spotting scope and tripod. Staple gun and extra staples, and/or thumbtacks for hanging targets. Tape or a good pen to mark the hits in an effort to make targets last longer. Boxes of ammo, basic field cleaning gear, including required tools. Stick on targets, sometimes they fit the bill (I like the ones that change color when you hit them). A bottle of water or other cold drink, and some tidbit to eat (granola bar or trail mix). I take a cheapo dollar store towel to lay out on the bench in the event I have to take a gun apart, easier to keep parts together and clean. The multitool is on my belt at the range.

After a few trips you'll find out what you need or don't need. Be sure to throw a folding chair in the car.

got that for my B-Day last year fom my parents.
I like to use it, since it spares me having to walk to the target so often.
Also, when my wife come to the range aswell, she dosn`t like to shoot, but she will be my spotter and tell me how my hits are, so I don`t have to lower the pistol, but only have to adjust the aim.....

I havn`t tried it on 100meters yet, since my friend has his own scope and I shoot his rifles.

this is kinda off topic but whats a decent spotting scope?
i was thinking about picking one up...

I don`t know, what my parents payed for it, but depending on the magnafication you can get them from about Euro 60,-.

The One I have is a 20 - 60 x 60 Zoom.
So on 25 meters, I can leave the zoom on 20 and have a perfect view of the entire target.

If you do long range shooting on targets over 100 mters, then you should get something like a 20-80 x 80 zoom.Here some links.
