I was also looking into a ruger 9mm they r really nice.

I understand what you mean about the .40. I also find them too snappy to be comfortable, especially with a polymer frame.

The SR9 and 9c are both great choices because the recoil will be more mild than the 40 and the grip will be slimmer for your hands.

You can also look into a 9mm 1911. They will have very little recoil as well as being slim for your hands.
