Frequency of cleaning
How often do you clean your handguns? For purposes of this poll, let's define "cleaning" as use of some sort of bore solvent and minor dissassembly, i.e., somethiing beyond just running thru a bore snake and wiping off finger prints.

I didn't read at first and just voted for After every fireing session but I'd say an extensive clean depends on the firearm.
Most you can wait for at least 1000 rounds.

My carry gun is always totally cleaned after each firing including mag.

I know a bunch of people who say that is the wrong way to go. Your carry piece should be a little dirty all the time.
I try not to clean after every range session but that anal retentive side of me gets the better of me most of the time. Esp with my 1911.

Not cleaning after every range session doesn't make any sense to me.
Besides, if you don't clean he's gonna come to your house........

I clean my guns after every shooting sesion. My revolvers (especially my snubbies) are really filthy when I'm done shooting them.

I also clean after every range session.
It is amazing how much dirt you get out after 50 or 100 rounds.
That way I can be sure everything is o.k., since I alsorun a visual check on all parts to make sure nothing is damaged.

i guess a little filth from 50rds wouldnt and shouldnt hurt but like many of you i feel dirty if my guns are dirty and i HAVE to clean them
it just bugs me when my stuff is dirty...

I clean after every range outing and if I can't get to the range for long periods, I'll wipe them down and lightly oil every few months or so. It doesn't hurt to be overly familiar with your sidearm.
