Well those are all great choices... My first pistol was a Glock 22 but now I have the .38 and .45 too

If you're going to get a .38 go for the bersa. Heard nothing but good about them and they're only about $250. Better than a hi-point as far as longevity. And like that guy said, if you get a revolver go for the .357mag, but try out the grips first. A lot of revolvers have those almost 90 degree grips and it's pretty strange to hold them in my opinion. The .357mag revolvers can shoot .38's for plinking, and then shoot .357mag for defense. Plus a snub nose revolver will be easy to carry around in your pocket. My subcompact glock g26 is too big to carry in my pocket.

If you like the 9mm (I assume the 9x19 Luger round.. not the 9x18 Mak)... then look at a Ruger P series. For the money I couldn't be happier with my P95... light & reliable, American made, great customer service, and at least $110 to $150 cheaper than a comparable semi-auto from another source. It's my regular Fall/Winter carry piece and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside to know that should worse come to worse, I have 15+1 hollow point friends with me!!

I agree. With a 7" bull barrel. A good 22 pistol and rifle are the backbone of any

serious personal gun collection for shooting.

Ya I have had the discussion about the .38sp and .357, I think I will be buying a .357 but I will mostly be shooting the .38sp so I have the potion to shoot either without worrying about wrecking the gun if i get a .38sp and shoot too much .357 rounds out of it. I like the Idea of a Glock, but I worry the simplicity will make it boring faster. The 1911 is exactly as utf59 said. There are a lot of 1911s out there, and a whole industry's worth of features available for them. and I'm not sure even on a manufacture little own any of the parts I want. All I'm sure on the 1911 is I like gi looks in commander size, I don't like the big beaver tails but I do like the skeletonized trigger and hammer. I had the same problem when I was trying to decide on an AR-15. "a whole industry's worth of features available for them."

How ya doing there, WhaleNoises.

Have you tried a .357 Mag pistol? Of the bunch, they

have the most recoil, and muzzle blast/flip.

I would rent all three, shoot them side by side,

then sleep on it. In the morning one pistol should come

to mind as your favorite.

But I would agree you should start out with a target 22, first.

I have a Glock 19 and while I like it I do not shoot it very often. I have several SA revolvers and love shooting them! A .357 will shoot the .38. Just something to consider. Lets us know what you finally purchase.

So I did it, I got a handgun. Ruger sp101 .357 mag, 3" barrel. Any add-on suggestions? It's for home and self defence, but I will spend a lot of time at the range practicing.
