Sounds great. Maybe I'll buy my son one also.

That DOESN'T mean they shouldn't be supervised though, especially when it comes to firearms. So OP, I say kudos to you. Its awesome you're teaching your kid properly at this age.
Well said, I agree 100%
As a first gun, I like the Remington 514 boys rifle. Academy has them for $129.

My son is 2 yrs old at the moment and I'm looking forward to buying him his first pellet gun at 5. I plan on purchasing a henry lever action soon and a heritage SA 22 revolver so I can pass them on to him when he is mature enough. I've even thought of having El Passo Saddlery making him a gun belt and holster when the time comes.

My 3 youngest sons learned with a 1947 Remington 510. Bolt action, single shot which has an auto saftey that locks when you close the bolt. They have to take time to load every single shot and flip that safety each and every time. Dead accurate too. My boys are 6, 7, 10, 13, & 15, all of us shoot and LOVE that gun! Picked it up for about $100. Will NEVER get rid of it!

A Henry lever is one gun he will pass on to his son. It is a bit pricey but worth it. I price is an issue a Marlin 795 can be had for $150 with a scope. The Marlin is light weight and very accurate.
One more thing if he don't like the Henry you will keep it for your self.

My daughters are 1yo and 5yo. I bought my 5yo a cricket .22lr. Its very light ,compact, accurate and being a single shot that you manually have to load and cock its very safe. You can get them in several styles and colors , my daughters is pink. Caliber choices are .22lr or .22mag.
