Default Derringer in 45 70 caliber! WTH?

Visited Gander Mountain store couple weeks ago and they had enormously just expanded their gun dept to well Over 500 handguns!
The salesperson showed me a new single shot Derringer in 45 70 caliber! I could hardly believe it! Can you imagine firing that thing?

Sounds tempting but I'm still holding out or the 12 gauge judge

That sounds like a really bad idea.

I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

Oh yessss......
That's almost like talking dirty....
I would prefer the S&W version. I wonder what they would call it?
I would so buy one. And OC it everywhere. With no pants or underwear. Because really, with a gun like that, who the hell cares?

If the 410 is the judge I would call the 12 ga the executioner. I would take the s&w too

I figure anyone firing this thing will be using what remains if their good hand to pick the fricking Derringer out of their forehead while waiting for the ambulance! Lol

Winant's Firearms Curiosa- in the back of the book- cartoons of the imaginary weird guns- includes a Colt #1 Derringer in .600 Nitro Express.

Probably would not be as bad as you might imagine (as far as recoil) as there would be insufficient barrel length to get anywhere near complete powder burn. It would have an ENOURMOUS muzzle flash though. You would be as likely to scorch your target as hit it with a bullet.
