A derringer?
What is you opinion on a 410/45 derringer as a last resort ?

From Diggsbake:
"I'll throw my 2cents in and recommend that you hold off on any purchase or trade in that realm and save up some cash for a "permanent" gun. . .

Go for something that you'll have (or could have) forever and be damn proud to show off and feel warm and fuzzy when you put it on in the morning. "

There is a little bit of wisdom here that Diggs gave you in another thread.

I'll not own a derringer, they suck. :D

It's an "Oh Sh*t" gun.

You fire it, then say: Oh Sh*t! and beat feet.

Any derringer will only give you false security. Kinda like getting a sheet metal gun cabinet and calling it a safe.

I was only wandering because I had a buddy trying to sell me his for good price. Thid is just something that I would keep over the visor of my truck or something like that. I figured 410 00 buck would give me two more chances.

I can even answer that question in all other languages.
Save up your money and get something better. In my book a derringer is a novelity, not something you would bet your life on.

I also agree with everyone else. Most have horrendous triggers and are uncomfortable to shoot. Bond Arms are quite good but for the price you could get something much better for SD.

I have one in [FIE 38 spl.] I bought it for 25 bucks off an old woman I was afraid might try to use it. It's fun to look at but I've not fired it. Dang things are just hard on the hand and have no accuracy past a couple feet. If you want it for a conversation piece go for it. But they are not much use for any type of defense situations. They do have a tendency to go off if dropped and there is no spin on the round so it starts to tumble almost immediately. True shot don't have that problem but it's going to spread real quick so again it be more of a noise maker then a defense weapon. So if you can get it real cheap and want something that will just be part of a collection bot not a real workhorse then go for it. But I don't think you will like it for much else when/if you get your hands on it.

I did find the old woman a little 38 snubby to keep in her night stand.

I feel they are a poor choice for defense. Unless you get one in a 22lr or 22mag they are as big and heavier that some pocket autos. A 2 shot 22 is totaly worthless. I have held one in 38 special. It was heavier than my J-frame. My J-frame holds 5 and reloads faster than the two shot derringer.

I do think they look cool and would be fun to play with on the weekend. But that is all I would use one for.
