Clint Smith has videos of one handed racking using your belt on the rear sight. Just advise the range staff when you sign in , so they can be aware of what is going on.

I added the Tactical Racker from Hatfield Gunsmiffin. One handed I can rack the slide on my holster (cydex), boot, bench, etc. Its a little pricey ($50), but it just replaces the slide plate on the back. Hey JonM, all I've got to say is WOW. With a little time and some tools you sir are a problem solver!! Kudo's...(I didn't mean to send so many pics but it kept say'n that the app crashed, so then I would take another)

Anyone remember what country's special forces made the push through holster that racked the slide? I can't remember.

I'd love something similar for my glock.

Take the gun to a gunsmith that is very familiar with 1911s (like me :-) and have him weld a cocking piece on the slide and refinish the slide for you. THese have been widely used and are very safe. You can rack the slide on a post, the table, your buddy's ear, anything that you can push against. It will be made with what we call a "positive" angle, so that it will tend to be more inclined to engage the object you are pushing against than to slip off of it.

Your next challenge is replacing the mag. Get 5 or 6 to preload at home. A loading helper (Uplula) will be a very good investment for you. THen get a carpenter friend to build you a jig that will hold each mag erect, properly spaced in a jig (put a wide flat plywood bottom on it for stability) with sides and rear of mag bottom captured and front of mag open. That will allow you to drop an empty mag, slide the receiver over the upright loaded mag (mag should have a protruding lip), and roll the receiver forward to seat the mag in the receiver by pushing firmly down on the mag lip. You will have to read that sentence 3 times to get the picture of how it works in your head. THen tap the bottom of the mag on the bench to make sure it's seated, rack the slide and fire away.

You could make the jig so that it had a special block (on the left side if your right hand is your strong hand or vice vera if left handed) and then clamp the whole thing to the shooting bench. Rack your slide on the block by pointing down range and pushing sharply. Let the racking lever slip off the block so that the slide goes forward freely under the recoil springs rebound. As a matter of fact, I might make one up on the mill this month out of good 4140 and blue it. I'll send you a prototype for testing if you PM me.

I've been a policeman over 30 years, first half was with revolvers, the last half with Beretta 96d and Sig 226. We trained a week each time in the transition phase putting 1000 rounds with each new gun. A lot of time in classroom and range was racking/loading one handed, against holster, belt, buckle and pressing against your thigh. I now have Glocks 17 & 19, that have an Israeli Glock charging handle replaces slide cover plate. Great addition and can very easly rack against anything and one finger two handed.
