Personally, I'd choose the 9mm with "low flash" ammo like Hornady Critical Defense.

If you've never fired a .357 after dark & enjoyed the light show, you should do it sometime. I don't own a .40 cal and I've never seen "low flash" ammo for it.

Now let me give you a choice. There's a hot tub party Friday night. You are given a choice of the following:

1. You can attend with Jessica Alba

or

2. You can attend with Janet Reno, Hillary Clinton, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Nancy Pelosi, and Michelle Obama.

Which option do you choose? Me? I'll go with quality over quantity every day.
OMG, I now need a brain douche to clear that image out of my head. Please do not ever do that again Doc!!!! Have mercy!

Critical Defense also comes in .357 magnum. It, too is advertised as reduced flash. The same for .40 S&W.

Preferable Choice of home Defense either a Shotgun or a Rifle. Handgun is not my opinion.

As a Military Person i always say "If killing an enemy(This also include Intruder), I rather shot once and see him dead then able to get up 2nd time."

00 buck or .223. If I have to resort to my handgun, then the **** has seriously hit the fan. Well, anyways, my HK USP in .40 S&W.

I would not have a problem with any of the above IF I got to chose the ammo as they are all, realistically, ballistically equal with the best SD ammo out there!
My personal preference, since they are ballistically equal, would be the one I could shoot the most accurately. Hit probability is the MOST important consideration in this situation!!!
