Loveguns get to a range and take a basic pistol course. Get some trigger time with as many various guns as you can. Learn what you are proficient with and then decide on a budget. From there choose what caliber you'd be comfortable with carrying EVERYDAY and take the plunge. And get some more trigger time, all while taking a CCW class.

Im in michigan,detroit....so I am really trying to gain skills and knowledge of a pistol...Im not getting a gun for show or to prove something...
