While .380 is the current rage, I'm not impressed.

If you look at ammo prices, I'd say either settle for

a nice small 22LR, or step up to at least a 9mm((9X19mm).

Being a somewhat large guy, IMO, 9mm is a minimum.

If you are so small, or weak you can't handle a 9mm,

then you should certainly step down to a cartridge

size you can control, and also afford.

I carry 380 in my Ruger LCP (at least did until I got stationed in CA and have my right to bear arms infringed).

Anyway, when discussing which caliber to choose, I'm learning to shorten my input by just saying SEAL Team VI uses 45acp.
