Default Bought another gun (sleeper)

I bought another "why not" gun today. A vintage Walther P1 9mm surplus gun.

Took it to the range and it performed way beyond my expectations. It shoots very accurately. Shot 50 rounds of Rem. and had no FTF or jams.

I know people that have had one for a long time, but I never thought about the P1. To me, it is a sleeper, you could not have a better shooting 9mm semi auto for $325 that shoots and good as this gun.

Field stripping and cleaning is very easy and fast.

Other than the mag release, I can see not drawbacks.

Parts if needed are easy to come by.

That's not a P-38? I have had my eye on one for a little while now.

P1 and P38 are alike, but the P38 was a forerunner to the P1

The original P38 was made with steel frame, then Walther shifted to alloy frame after WWII.

I bought mine from a LEO friend of mine, but they are still available online in the $350-400 range

You wont accidentally release or drop a mag with the bottom release so it is not that big a drawback. One reason why I carry butt forward. I have had the mag release accidentally get bumped a few times with the butt back. Not good if you are in a hurry.

I've had mine a little over a year. Very fun gun. Paid just a little over $300.00 shipped to my door. SOG

You can't find one for $300 right now unless it's a private party. J&G has Walthers but they are expensive. I can mess around and find a nice modern pistol for the same money. The ones at J&G have capture marks and all the german markings are struck through.
