Although I have never been an LEO, many family and close friends are(I was On the List for NYPD in 1979 and withdrew to Join the US ARMY to chase a different kind of Bad Guy!) Including My Late Dad and 2 late Uncles. Dad was federal(Post Office Police/Postal Insp.) and didn't get to carry an Autoloader outside of His Army Call ups(was Active reserve until his health began to fail in the 1980's with active duty service in Both Korea & Vietnam) until the Tres. Dept. Authorized the Post Office Police to carry Autos in the late 1970's(He carried a Colt Trooper 4" 1st, then a Ruger Security Six with a 5" match Bull Barrel)..Although he'd carried Both a .45 & a Tommy gun in Korea. when he had the chance, he choose .9mm's,..first an S&W "59" series...then the Ruger P85...Why? "simple son,..more rounds in the Magazine!" Not that he didn't like(Love!) his 1911, but as he got older, his hands weren't as strong.
I have had the honor to carry both a 1911(Commander) and a Beretta M9 in service to our country, and they are both fine Guns. For me Personally, and to Protect my home and family(although my wife is a good back up!) I'll stick with my Hi-Cap & Regular cap .9mm's(several to choose from!)...
