And the 338 was just the back-up. It was the 300 Win-mag that made my father turn to me and say "Thats why I won't hunt bears with anything less than a 338". I [put blame fully on my oldest brother, for not listening to where to hit it, and not being as good of a shot as I am!

The thread has some how drifted to rifles? The OP was handguns Semi or revolver. This is an LAR Grizzly .45 Winchester Magnum. These guns were made on a limited production for Bear defense. They were made in .50 AE and .44 Mag. This particular handgun has .357 Mag. Conversion.
This "Grizz" put down a Black Bear with a real bad attitude in the Sierra Madre Mtns with one round. In the old days Black Bear tags were free to residents.
