personally i think a lot of it comes from what's practical and simpler to film. if they showed exactly how things were done in real life, they would take a 90 minute movie to a week long mini-series! some of it is done for effect just to be as over the top as the next action film to pack in the viewers and make money. practical and simple, most of it's about time and money.

now the problem i have is that someone goes to the movie and they believe what they see on the screen is real. yep, and Superman can fly too! a realistic person goes to the movies to be entertained. a realistic person even realizes that even a fact based movie takes some artistic deviance from the facts to sensationalize the movie to pull in paying viewers.

Are you telling me that when you hold a gun sideways it isn't more accurate?

I've seen a lot of those low budget action flicks. I liked this one where they played "Russian Roulette" with a 1911. I remember another one where this guy fired a Side by Side 3 times.

The firing of the .45s actually will affect the rotation of the Earth. Everyone who owns one has to fire them, toward the West, at exactly the same time. The rotation of the Earth will slow, and time will slow for a few moments. I heard that on Fox News, so you know it is the truth.

My favorite shots were Clint Eastwood, shooting ropes in half from 1000 yards, with iron sights and with a cigar in his mouth. Every time I try that, I hit the rope, but it never breaks....I have lost many partners in crime that way.

My other favorite shot was when the original Steve McGarrett, shoots at a running man, on a gantry 100 feet above him and 200 yards away, from the hip, with a 1 7/8" .38 spl. revolver and kills the man instantly. I have tried that shot, and I just can't pull it off. I have a hard time even winging the guy.

A bit off subject, but my other movie favorite is when cars fly off cliffs without touching anything and explode in mid air. Even a Pinto would not do that.
