Default Another convert.

Cin and I had some of the cigar shop crowd over to the house yesterday. Barbecued ribs, corn on the cob, and pinto beans. A good Texas feed. Plus beer and cigars.

Anyway, while all of us guys were doing the guy thing of standing around the grill drinking beer and smoking cigars, Joe, the owner of the cigar store, made the offhand remark that he'd like to try my 1911 sometime, as several of his regulars had them and always maintained that they were their favorites.

So, after everybody ate, I dug out my favorite 1911, and four of us went down to my "range" and I let them take turns shooting it for about 30 minutes until it got too dark to be safe. Walking back to the house he told me "My wife's going to be mad at you again -- I want one" and he remarked several times that evening how he like the gun.

Now, he's a semi--gun person. He owns two or three 9mms, two or three rifles, and a shotgun or two. But most of his handguns are more modern, polymer framed pistols, and he doesn't have much experience shooting older designs. After shooting the 1911 he said, "that's what a pistol should feel like".

Knowing Joe, I suspect there'll be one at his house in a couple of weeks. And his wife will mention again that I shouldn't be allowed to talk to Joe.

The group enjoyed our spur of the moment range time so much that we've decided to pick an afternoon when we have more daylight and get together for an afternoon of shooting. And cigars, of course.

Ha, that's funny, my cigar buddies and I got together last night for grilling, beer and cigars, a little gun talk.

Was a good evening.

I've seen two types of 1911 converts so far...

Those that immediately switch to it, and never look back.

And those that immediately buy one, but still carry their regular gun for whatever reason.

It seems I've never heard of a person who shoots or handles one without wanting one.

Update: So, was at cigar shop today, and Joe says that he still wants a 1911. He then tells me that Dave was in earlier and has a 1911 he wants to sell, but wouldn't sell it to him because it wasn't a good gun, and Joe wouldn't be happy with it. Apparently it had problems. I asked what kind. He said Tarus. I asked how much. He said $250. I said I'll buy it now. I told him as long as you have a frame and a slide everything else can be upgraded, modified, or tuned, and if I couldn't tweek it I had a gunsmith who could. He pm'd Dave right then that he'd take the gun.

Ah, Tobacco, Alcohol, fatty foods and pistols. Damn the world is safe after all. And I thought the Obamas and Bloombergs were wining. Sounds like fun.

You spelled "whining" wrong.

As I am the only one in the group that voted for Obama, I was even given the blame for the Steelers losing Monday night.

Geez... admitting you have an STD would be more appropriate conversation.
