AMT Automag II .22 mag

I just picked up an AMT Automag II, a .22 magnum semi-auto pistol. I've been sorta interested in 'em since I saw one at a gun show years ago, and came across one this week being sold by an individual for a price that was too tempting for me to let go. It looked lonely, so I thought that it could hang out with my AMT Hardballer (now, if I could find a AMT Longslide .45 at a reasonable price . . . ). It looks like a well made gun, and has my favorite iron sight set up -- white outline for the rear sight, red ramp for the front.

I realize that sometimes buying an AMT is a gamble; some were excellent guns, some were boat anchors. When I got my Hardballer it had ejection problems, but a good gunsmith and $125.00 turned it into one of my favorite 1911's. I've read about problems with the Automag II jamming, but on closer reading it appears that if fe\ed the correct ammo it's pretty reliable. Hopefully I can take it down back this afternoon to check it out.

Anyone here have any experience with one?

I haven't seen one of those -- sounds like an interesting gun. I'm glad there some good use for the .30 carbine round. . .

I have a nice Automag that came with paperwork where a previous owner had returned it because of feeding problems. The factory polished the feed ramp, and suggested that only Winchester 40grn. ammo be used. That's what I use,as well as some Federal, and have never had a feed problem. It sure is a hoot to use in the rimfire class at our local pin shoot,a real flame thrower, and very accurate.

The .22 Mag is notorious for failures to eject. This is inevitable. For fun, what the heck. For competition? Only if you get alibis. Cool toy though for SURE...

I like AMT..I picked up one of those 10-22 copies they made (for a year I think) that is a real tack driver with bulk ammo. Hell, the thing has a SS receiver. That's better than the original :D
I've shot a few of the pistols that people I knew had and didn't hold one I didn't like. I'd love to have one of the 22 mag and the 30.

Okay, excuse the lighting on this photo, but just a quick snapshot of the new AMT Automag II with it's cousin.
