Default Ammo Shortage

I am looking to buy my first gun as a home defense weapon. I was thinking about a 45 or 40 cal. I know there is a ammo shortage and my friend says it is immpossible to find .380 shells. Does anyone know if it is harder to get 45 or 40 cal bullets or should i just go for a 9mm?

I wouldn't base my purchase decision on ammo availability. Sooner or later the ammo shortage will end and hopefully you won't regret your decision! Do the research on stopping power, decide how much recoil you can handle comfortably and accurately, decide how much you want to spend, and consider how easy and comfortable it will be for you to wear concealed all day, if it is going to be a CCW gun.

At the range where I work the inventory of the different calibers of ammunition has been in a state of constant fluctuation. Last week the inventory high on 40s, so so on 38 and 357s, low on 9s and 45s, and non-existent on 44 mag although, that could change next week. Like the man said, don't make your decision based on ammo availability, this could come back and bite you in the a$$.

Default What Ammo Shortage?

I agree - the "shortage" will be over soon, and you want the weapon you are most comfortable with.

Seriously, like the guys said, the ammo shortage will not last forever, so your best bet is to buy the gun and caliber you want and are most comfortable with. Getting ammo has taken a little work lately, but I've been able to find what I need by looking around a little more, and in some cases paying a little more than I used to.

Default my 2 cents

you'll be happy with either. as an owner of an XD45 and XD40sc, I can say that both shoot like a dream and about 500 rnds practice will make perfect. Personally, I dont notice very much difference in recoil between the 2. and right now a box of .45 ACP is only $1 more than the .40 S&W at my local shop. all things considered, go with what hurts your wallet less. odds are you'll buy the other caliber once this f'n recession is over. guns are addictive.

You can find whatever ammo wherever if you look hard enough. The internet is a wonderful tool to aid in the diet of our many weapons these days. find what you shoot better with.
