Lasers are OK for a training aid. But I would not depend on a laser to aim a weapon. By the time a very quick shot gets the laser on target a person used to pointing and shooting will be firing his weapon.
My advice is to spend the money you planned to spend on a laser on ammo. Use the ammo to become proficient at pointing and shooting without aiming. In just a few sessions you can become confident in pointing and shooting at 3 to 5 yards. 3 to 5 yards is a very common distance for self defense.
Almost every time anyone buys a gun there is some buyers remorse. When there are so many selections you will always second guess yourself.
