Yea, you're crazy to even think about a 9mm as a viable weapon against a bear. Any anyone who thinks that a 9mm that you are "good" with is better than a .44, .454 etc is crazy also. I might be "better" at defending my self with a sword than a hang gun, but I would rather not fight a bear with one. As mentioned, unless you can put a round in his eye, nose or maybe mouth, all you will do is piss him off. I grew up in northern Maine, we never would think about a 9mm for bear, moose or any large game. Most of the time we carried a rifle and IF we had a sidearm it was usually a .22 for finishing of trapped game or maybe a wounded deer.

No I am sorry but it's not BS I had to use a 243 to finish the job. A horse has a very hard head . We had a horse run into a steel pipe fence and broke its nose. He hit it so hard that he bent the steel. When we had the vet look at the horse he said that is a very hard bone to break .

It was very sick and there was no saving it and our vet charges 100 for a farm call and anther 200 for the med that puts them asleep . Trust me I am not trying to brag about it or something I do for fun on a Friday night after a couple of beers
