I have always thought that going anywhere underpowered where something could and would eat me was not a good idea. A buddy wanted me to go diving with sharks with him, my answer was simple H... No .

The one thing I never hear anybody mention is a dangerous animal wounded is a danger to everyone. If you do wound it and get away somebody has to deal with it. I like adventure like the next guy but a p'd off bear is not anyone's idea of fun. Some poor unsuspecting slob ends up going for unplanned ursine digestive tract tour!

I know for a fact that a 9 mm mite be a good round for self defense but for killing a large animal no way. I had to shoot a 1200lb horse. And all I had with me, Was my ruger 9mm. I was standing point blank to the horses head when I fired, between his eyes. All the horse did was take a step backwards and just stand there. I had to run to the house and get a bigger gun to finish it off I will never do that again.
So yes you would be very crazy if you went into bear country with a 9mm

A soft .357 may not penetrate a bears head. It has happened often. Much of this is about bullet selection like those hardcast Keith's.
