A Milwaukee man was cloths shopping with his girlfriend. He had a gun in his coat pocket not in a holster (has a CC permit) and he took the coat off to try on some cloths and the gun fell out of the pocket and went off. No one was hurt, the guy and gal took off and he turned himself in the next day. I believe he is being charged with reckless endangerment. If the facts are correctly reported, I would like to know what kind of gun it was that would go off because it was dropped. I thought it was funny that this made the news and most intentional shootings in the city don't.
I'm more inclined to believe the girlfriend somehow has something to do with this like putting here finger in the trigger guard when picking it up after it fell. Just don't see a short drop causing a weapon to discharge.
This actually happened at my barber shop about two years ago, the customer had a 2 shot 9mm derringer, when he adjusted his pants, the gun hit the floor and discharged a round. It went through the barber chair and into my barbers rear end, which is still there to this day, the doctors said it would do more harm then good to remove it. I wouldn't be quick to say that it can't happen without help, depending on the weapon, it can fire when hitting the ground (that's why i carry a Glock, it has a drop safety )
Gun accidentally discharged? The owner of the firearm and his girl friend ran from the store? The owner of the gun surrendered to the police later? I would say, these people committed something they knew that bordered on a crime. I suspect some "Show Off" activity went real bad.
If this is an older story it was an off duty mod cop trying to his girlfriend how to ccw by sticking her gun in his pants an yanking the trigger. It didn't fire on being dropped as he claimed. It all came out in the investigation. She had the gun in her purse bolstered. He was trying to jam it in his waste band sans holster because it was a "better" way to carry
