I love the 9mm...inexpensive to shoot, high capacity, fast follow up shots, and can be handled my smaller shooters such as my wife. Effective hits with a 9mm are far better than a marginal hit with a .40, .45, or even a .500...learn to shoot your gun effectively and don't worry about the caliber.
Probably the smartest thing I've heard all day.

To each their own. You'll find thousands of arguments every way. 9mm is fine with modern SD ammo. When getting opinions, count those which have personally used their weapon on a human and you'll remove a lot of the BS.

Hi slagersan, Welcome to the FTF.

You can't say it much better than this...

I like the 9mm and have carried it as a duty weapon, it's accurate and fun to shoot. Have used a couple of Rugers, the BHP and a few others including the Parabellum pistol (not on duty!) I prefer the .40, which replaced our 9mms. With either, the shotgun went along as we often had to deal with an animal situation.. deer or even bear. I've not shot a human but trained to double-tap center of mass.. "Two to the chest, one to the head" was the unspoken rule. Only time I drew down on someone the shottie came out.
I'd like to add that Ive also carried the 9.3 mm Makarov as a back up, sometimes as primary using 95gr Barnaul.

I think we'd have seen a change if the German army had a problem with

9mm sometime during WWII. They used it in both their Lugers and Walthers.

The Germans are a very mechanically practical people. If something

doesn't work, they're not worried about who to blame it on, what

went wrong, what others think, etc, they just correct the problem.

By all indications, the round seemed to get the job done for them,

and as a result has been popular with military and police forces around

the world ever since, most notably, in the Beretta 92, CZ75, and Browning

Hi-Power.

people that hate the 38spl will often attribute supernatural abilities to the 9mm. its basically the same thing.

like any handgun or rifle hitting centermass is most important.

my issue with it is for the same size gun i can use a 45acp. in a small pocket gun 380 works.

my wife likes the 9mm she isnt a great shot but getting better. her xdm in 9mm lets her have 20 chances to hit center mass before she needs to reload. for her current skill level the 9mm works great for her.

I believe that the 1986 "Miami shootout" and later the FBI adopting the 10 mm contributed a lot in giving the 9 mm a bad rep ,specially in the USA.

I own a 22/45 but a 9mm will be my next purchase. My wife has started shooting with me and the 9mm works for her. So it will be a 9mm now and then we'll see where we go from there. Our focus is mechanics and accuracy which means lots of practice. The lower price point for the 9mm ammo will be a help.

These guys (FBI) shoot a lot of rounds in their CQB training.

So a gun that shoots a lot of ammo is a critical need for them in their gunfights.

I myself would be most unlikely ever to be in their situation.

Ergo, a .45 ACP is perfect, for me.

One shot, one kill. Don't need to empty the magazine that way.
