I have to ask why are those your options? I wouldn't chose any of them. Take some time and find a range that rents and shoot several firearms. With a $500 budget I expect you can find a far better firearm to fit your need.

I own a Bersa Concealed Carry Pro. I also had a Windicator. Both are good guns. But the widicator is like carrying a brick around. The Bersa is one of my regular carry guns. I also have a full size 1911. But that Bersa is so easy to carry.

I can't speak of the AMT as I have never held or shot one.

I am looking at the Bersa and another Windicator after I pay off my shotgun.

I am also considering a twin barrel .357 Magnum or .45 ACP Derringer.

Do yourself a favor and don't. They are cute and curios but there are MUCH better carry options out there.

A 2" barrel revolver in .357 mag is a great carry gun but you need to be a seasoned shooter to handle the rather snappy recoil or follow up shots are an issue. An officer's model 1911 is an outstanding option with several Kimber and Springfield Armory model that you could get used for not too far off you price range (as reflected in some of your options).

Does AMT still make a .45 Backup? I'd go with a Ruger SP101 for a .357 & Ruger P345 for .45. Are you firm on those two calibers? I carry a Ruger SR9c. If y'all haven't noticed I'm a Ruger fan.

AMT folded like the company they acquired, High Standard builds them today.

I love .357 Magnum and .45 ACP especially in a small package.

My Windicator is great fun to shoot 2 handed or single handed in .38 Special/.38 Special +P in .357 Magnum it requires both hands.

The 1st time I shot an AMT Backup in .45 ACP(230 grain JHP +P) I scratched/cut my forehead with the front sight.

I guess I never learn; I am always looking for C-4 in small packages.

My .02, The Glock 27 is the most reliable/versatile ccw on the market. I'd give it a try...

I have thought of getting a derringer just as a fun toy to play around with. As for self defense, a derringer in a real self defense caliber is just as large and heavy as many small autos. It would be more practical to carry a J-frame with 38 +p ammo in it. At least then you would have 5 shots.

If I may be so bold as to say save up just a tad more, Kahr makes some tiny powerhouses in .45. On paper 9mm is up there in the energy levels of .45 with +p rounds. A lot of handguns aren't +p rated though & that's what's preferred out of a shorter barrel to make up for lost velocity in standard pressure loads. That's why for power I'd recommend .40, their saami psi is 35,000 while the .45 is only 21,000. I'm not hating on .45's but it's not the best for pocket pistols.

In 45 how about a para warthog, 1911 styled more compact also has double stack mag for about 10 round capacity i believe, close in overall size to the glock 26/27 etc
