.43 Kurz Question

We all know how difficult it is to find .43 Luger.

I'm at MartMart, and they had 2 boxes of .43 Kurz, I picked them up, couldn't pass them up at $52 a box.

I know it isn't chambered for it, but they fit the mags of my Fratelli 43 Commander model.

Can I run them through safely?

The .43 Kurz is an off shoot from the 11.7mm. The case was made shorter to fit the smaller framed pistol (like yours).

If I remember correctly, they went with the .43 diameter because it outperforms the .40S&W and allows for rounds in a standard magazine than a .45ACP.

Great find. Do you have a link?

Benning Boy 05-13-2011 02:37 PM

No link, got them at the store, dust on the boxes.

I love the .43, moderate recoil, but faster than the .45ACP, only problem is finding .43 Luger HP or FMJ. I have an azzload of frangible, as I guess this was supposed to be an Air Marshall round.

Any other .43 fans?

Na, my .41 Swiss Vetterli is still getting the job done.

You're blessed. But not all of us have $2500 for a pistol.

How do you feed that? Or do you roll your own?

.43 Kurtz? In stock? Man, you found the Holy Grail! I haven't seen stock loads for that caliber, ever... LOL

That's the delayed blowback model right? For reduced recoil through venting, like the internal version of a muzzle break, but without the bulky front end piece and extra noise?

Pretty slick design for it's day, I wish the company hadn't gone bankrupt. :(

You want to sell it? :D

I think you guys misunderstand...

I have the .43 Luger. I bought the .43 Kurz ammo because I can't find any .43 Luger ammo.

I want to know if I can safely run the shorter ammo through.

I don't think the firing pin is gonna reach, though.:(

2 frikken millimeters.:(

Dillinger 05-13-2011 03:41 PM

Oooohhhhh. Well the case is shorter but it's shorter up front.

The rim and primer remain the same, so your firing pin should reach no problem. Just like with 5.56/.223

There will be an extra 2mm of free head space before the round enters the rifling, but other than that you should be okay.

Where'd you get the Luger? Must have been brought back from the war as I don't think they, the Germans, ever exported the .43

The Pawn Stars guys would be sh!tting themselves if you walked in with that to show and tell!!

Troy Michalik 05-13-2011 03:52 PM

Yes I do roll my own, but I'm really having to keep track of the brass.

And I agree with JD on this one, you should be good to go. But I'd check the brass for signs of over pressure before you put too many down range.

"The Fratelli 43 Commander is the latest innovation in polymer firearm technology. We chose the .43 ACP as the caliber to bridge the gap between the slower, subsonic .45 ACP, and the popular but questionable .40 caliber.

Our skilled craftsmen carefully mill Swedish powdered steel blocks into works of art that marry perfectly onto glass/nylon polymer frames.

With match-grade barrels, titanium internals, and Kydex grips, every Commander is inspected by our QA department twice before it is released for sale.

Available in .43 Luger Frangible, .43 Makarov, and soon to be released in .43 Odin, the combination of power and capacity will ensure that this will be your "go-to" gun."

I don't generally buy into this kind of hype, but I sold off most of my other pistols to finance this, and haven't regretted it yet.
