I called the PD just now. I was politely informed that there is a huge backlog from Hurricane Sandy (that was in November BTW) and they only got 10 applications in December (I handed mine in on Dec. 7th) but they got close to 40 in January. The Captain was out on vacation the week before last and this was off Friday as well. He also told me he didn't have my file which means that the file is on the captain's desk as we speak, so that could be mean it's a matter of a few days.

I felt like for such a long and polite description of the reasoning why I'm waiting more than the requisite 30 days, I could wait a few more days before reaching out to the Captain directly and inquiring as to the delay.

It's not just a pain it's unconstitutional!!!
But we allowed the government to violate our rights, so it's our fault for not 'refusing to go to the back of the bus'! They will take as much as we ALLOW them to!!!

Someone mentioned aP226, I like it. I have a p229 in 9 and a 1911 in .45. I would recommend the same to everyone I know. That's just how I am.

Okay, I'll go ahead and elaborate...

40sw- Is a very good defense round, is more affordable, comes is smaller frame designs, and often allows a higher capacity than 45acp. These are all fine attributes. It's also considerably more difficult to shoot repetitively well than 45acp, which is paramount in a self defense senario. 40sw is fine. I have a couple, and wouldn't frown on anyone who depended on one...BUT...

I carry a 45acp, because- It's simple, old, plain, heavy, slow...and it just plain works. And with just a little bit of training, it works really well and really fast in repetition.

Anyone who tells you one is dramatically ballistically superior to the other is just being silly in my opinion. They'll both do the job, and in short order. 40sw will generally allow your gun to be a bit smaller and higher in capacity. 45acp is more likely maximize your abilities as a shooter, which is huge in my mind.

Both guns and calibers are fine. But I'd choose a 1911 45acp over a Beretta M96 40sw eight days a week.

Steel plates? Any chance you are going to get into IPSC/USPSA or anything of that nature? If so, that might make quite a bit of difference in your options.

Yea I would like to get into comp shooting that why I was wondering ever says 1911 are they that much better of a gun

Single action is so much different than DA/SA or DAO. The very short travel of the trigger makes it much easier to stay on target during the trigger-pull portion of the shot.
