I'm a big guy. Yet my .380 LCP goes in my front pocket every time I leave the house. It's lightweight, small, practically undetectable by passersby, I even forget it's there sometimes, and as such, I have no excuse to not have a gun with me. Sometimes for sake of redundancy, I'll have my S&W Airweight .38 SPL IWB along with the .380 in the opposite front pocket.

You can find 380 ammo around here, but the defensive ammo have disappeared. Went to the gun show last weekend and could not find Hornady or any other defensive ammo. Asked one vendor there and he stated people bought them all up. With that being said, the 380 seems to be very popular around here and not losing ground on the 9mm. I saw plenty of 9mm and very few 380 guns at the show. No taurus 738 to be found and a few LCPs from 299 up to 429. The gun show had plenty of 9mm defense ammo.
I have a taurus 738 and a ruger lc9. Right now the warm weather, I pocket carry the 738. Light and compact. Shooting both, the 738 is just as accurate as the lc9 at 10 yards and I can hit a gong at 25yards with my 738. I feel any gun is better than no gun. A person ain't going to look at your gun and say that ain't going to stop me go ahead and shoot me.

I feel the .380 will never die. In my opinion I would rather buck up and carry the slightly larger and heavier LC9, PM9, or similiar 9mm option but the extremely small weapons the .380 can be squeezed into means it is so easy to always have one with you. While I think its foolish to argue a reduced recoil as compared to 9mm (the higher weight of the 9s almost certainly evens the two up if not gives it a slight edge), you can't argue the size difference between the LCP and LC9 and other similar side by side contrasts.

I'm about to pick up a body guard and trying to talk a guy out of his pf-9. Very similar sized pistols, can't wait to see the difference in recoil.

I carry a Bersa Thunder .380 IWB and trust it completely. But if I wanted a pocket pistol I would get a .32 acp it has less recoil and close up it will do the job fine.

Cluznar, do you think the Bersa is too heavy to be carried in a pocket? I like the pistol, but Berettas coming out with the Pico at only 11 ounces....think it would be more comfortable than the Bersa. What are your thoughts ?

Look at CM9 if you haven't already. Just sold my Bodyguard and bought one. I love it and got it cheaper than the Bodyguard.

Not many people use hollow point ammo in a 380. The 380 is not going to produce much hydrostatic shock, so penetration is all it has going for it. Many 380 pistols are far more reliable with round nose FMJ ammo.

jimmyp7162 ..... the Bersa could be carried fine in a larger coat or jacket pocket. But at 20 ounces I prefer to carry it IWB holster. I have heard of the PICO and Beretta is a good gun, but for me 11 ounces is to light in a .380 because of recoil. The Bersa at 20 ounces with good defensive ammo is just right. As I said if I wanted a pocket gun it would be a .32 acp.

Personally I like to carry my .380 over the 9mm options. I think the .380 is a good round.
